Frequently asked questions

  • What is fire-rated glass?

Fire-rated glass – also known as fire proof glazing, fire-rated glazing and fire-resistant glazing – is a specialised type of glass designed to halt the spread of smoke, flames and heat. This allows building occupants longer to evacuate and the emergency services longer to arrive.

  • What is a fire-rated glazing system?

A fire-rated glazing system is an assembly of fire-resistant glass and a fire-resistant frame designed to withstand heat, smoke and fire.

  • How is "integrity only" different from "integrity and insulation"?

"Integrity only" prevents the passage of fire through an assembly for 30 or 60 minutes. "Integrity and insulation" stops the passage of fire and radiant heat for 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.

  • Do you provide aluminium fire-rated glazing systems?

No. All our fire-rated glazing systems are made from steel rather than aluminium. This is down to the superior strength and durability of steel.

  • Are your fire-rated glazing systems tested and compliant?

Yes. Like all of our products, our fire-rated glazing systems are tested and compliant. They undergo real-world tests and we strive to make compliance easy to understand for all our clients.
