Primary protection against bomb blasts

Our SG blast-resistant curtain walling system offers a significant advance in blast-mitigation glazing system design.

It's designed as a semi-unitised, structurally glazed system – and its narrow 60mm sight lines give the appearance of any other non-specialised glazed assembly. This allows designers to get blast-protection without a traditional wide profile.

This semi-unitised, structurally glazed system is fully accredited with range test data according to ISO/DIS, ASTM and GSA standards.

It's tested to hazard level none or hazard level low for a medium range lorry, or hazard level high for close-range car bomb charges in multi-panel large-span configurations.

Extensive test data

All our products are developed and manufactured according to data from real-world tests, not simulations – and our blast-resistant SG series is no exception.

Superior materials

Expect high-quality materials for comprehensive blast-protection.

Narrow sightlines

Avoid wide profiles with a 60mm-wide blast-resistant curtain wall.

Why choose a steel blast-resistant curtain wall?

Our blast-resistant curtain walls are made from steel rather than aluminium. Here are five key reasons why.

Inherent strength

Steel is stronger and more resilient than aluminium, making it an ideal material for blast-proof walls.

High tolerances

Our cold-rolled steel is processed to meet high tolerance requirements for tight, precise dimensions.

High-performance

Steel is strong, tough and resistant to corrosion, making it long-lasting as well as blast-resistant.

Larger free spans

Steel blast-proof walls can be made in larger spans than aluminium.

Narrow sight lines

Our SG series blast-resistant curtain wall has a 60mm profile, giving you the best in blast resistance with no compromise on aesthetics.

Blast resistance testing

Here at Wrightstyle, we pride ourselves on subjecting all our curtain walls to extensive real-world testing.

Our SG series blast-resistant curtain wall was tested twice. The first test simulated a lorry bomb, the second a car bomb at close range. Cubicle 2 receive two blasts within hours and was still awarded a high protection classification.

Test 1 – cubicle 1 measurements and results

  • Max positive overpressure +29kPa
  • Max positive impulse +305 kPams-1
  • Result ISO/DIS16933/HOSDB hazard rating A – "no break"
  • Result GSA PBS-P100 GSA1 protection level safe – hazard level none

Test 1 – cubicle 2 measurements and results

  • Max positive overpressure +37kPa
  • Max positive impulse +370 kPams-1
  • Result ISO/DIS16933/HOSDB hazard rating A – "no break"
  • Result GSA PBS-P100 GSA1 protection level safe – hazard level none

Test 2 – cubicle 2 measurements and results

  • Max positive overpressure +133kPa
  • Max positive impulse +650 kPams-1
  • Result ISO/DIS16933/HOSDB EVX19/hazard rating D – "very low hazard"
  • Result GSA PBS-P100 GSA3b protection level high – hazard level low

Quality assurance

All our products undergo a rigorous programme of testing and development – and that includes our blast-resistant curtain wall systems. Quality assurance is an essential part of what we do – from initial conception to the final fabrication.

Technical support and advisory

Whether you're an architect, specifier, builder or contractor you can expect high-quality technical advice – from specification to estimating, from design to structural calculations. Our architectural specification management services are never more than a phone call away.

Frequently asked questions

  • How wide is the SG series profile?

The SG series has a 60mm wide profile. This makes it look like any other non-specialised glazed assembly and allows designers to avoid the wide profiles traditionally associated with blast-proof walls.

  • What tests has the SG series blast-resistant curtain wall undergone?

The SG series blast-resistant curtain wall has undergone multiple tests and is accredited to ISO/DIS, ASTM and GSA standards.

  • Can the SG series be installed externally?

Yes, the SG series can be installed both internally and externally.

  • What finish does the SG series have?

Like all our curtain walls, the SG series has a powder coated finish.

  • What framing depth does the SG series have?

    The SG series has a framing depth of 40, 60, 90, 140 or 180mm.

  • What width profile does the SG series have?

The SG series has a width profile of 60mm. These narrow sightlines are part of what makes the SG series an aesthetically versatile choice for architects, designers, specifiers and contractors.

  • What wall thickness does the SG series have?

The SG series has a wall thickness of 2-3mm or 4mm.
