The rooflight may not look like a steel system, but of course that’s one of the benefits – we have a wide variety of finishes, cappings, etc. that can be used to make the system blend in.
The 6M long by 5.5M wide rooflights were intended to maximise the views across the adjacent country club, and so sight lines were to be kept to an absolute minimum. To further complicate the requirement, the rooflight was to be a fanned type design in plan, with a shallow facet in section, to be fixed to a curved glue-lam support beam with a large amount of movement.
The design solution utilised the SR series roof glazing system: with 180mm deep sections to the rafters and 90mm deep sections to the purlins, with the two-tier pressure equalising dry glazed gasket drainage system.
The system was glazed with a new type of laminated self-cleaning glass, (a particular requirement due to the size and access difficulties on a residential property).
